One way to influence, force, affect is to give normal things in our lives values like good, evil, bad, weak, strong, right, wrong, godly, devilish. All cultures and people does like this. And in that way peoples actions, values and opinions can be influenced in a certain direction - depending which truths the government, religious leaders, kings, etc. wants to exist. This is nothing that happens over night - it takes years, decades.
The woman, her sexuality and her sex has been exposed to that during the last 2000-3000 years. In most parts of the world, dominated by male oriented religions like Christianity, Islam and Judaism - old truths about what is good/evil changed. These religions has changed what the people in cultures dominated by them believe. Goddesses has disappeared and been replaced with one single God. The opinion about the woman and her sex has changed from being something sacred and good - to something filthy and unmentionable. Symbols that have important has been given new meanings, myths and explanations has changed - to fit the new truth - the only truth.
Truths in other parts of the world, in India for example, has not been influenced in the same fundamental manner. Because of that ideas and truths that existed long time ago has been able to survive...
